Windbreak

December 25, 2009 · 0 comments

Also known as a shelterbelt, a Windbreak is a plantation designed such that it provides shelter from the wind. This shelter also protects from soil erosion and usually consists of rows of shrubs or trees planted in a systematic manner generally on the edges of fields.

Windbreaks could also be used around homes to serve as a barrier and effectively reduce energy costs related to cooling and heating systems. Roadways and yards often use windbreaks to block snow. Additionally, they provide the possibility of biodiversity and potential use of the wood, while also improving the landscaping, aesthetics, safety for farm animals and noise levels of farms that may be near motorways.
