Wind Turbines

November 21, 2009 · 0 comments

The device used to convert kinetic energy from wind into mechanical energy is a Wind Turbine. This is a rotating machine and when the mechanical energy is used directly by another machine it is called a windmill. When electricity is generated from the mechanical energy the machine is termed a wind generator, wind power unit, wind energy converter, aerogenerator or wind turbine.

Many wind turbines together form a wind farm. These farms may be located on land with the area between turbines used for agriculture or off shore in a lake or ocean.

Wind power, a renewable source of energy, has zero emissions and consumes no fuel unlike power plants that require fossil fuels.
