Tata Steel is the 6th largest steel company in the world with a crude steel capacity of 31 million tonnes per year. It is the largest private sector steel company in India. A part of the Tata Group of companies, Tata Steel is based in Jamshedpur, India. Tata Steel has been making tremendous efforts towards environment management. The Steel Works, all mines, collieries and manufacturing departments are ISO-14001 certified. Over the last five years, the company has doubled its capital investments in pollution abatement with pollution control systems being set up. They have programs that work to improve environment and resource conservation that include reducing green house erosion, water and raw material consumption. Reuse and recycling systems are being used extensively. Tata Steel has also created a Tata zoo in Jamshedpur spread over 37 hectares of wooded area, along with manicured gardens and lawns.
