The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification is an NGO that focuses on Sustainable Forest Management through independent third party certification. The entire forest supply chain is monitored by the PEFC and good practice in the forest is promoted towards the production of timber and non timber forest produce that is subjected to high ecological, ethical and social standards.
The PEFC is the largest forest certification system in the world with approximately 30 endorsed certification systems and over 220 million hectares of certified forests. Each national certification system is checked under third party assessment against PEFC’s sustainability benchmarks to ensure international standards are maintained.
Small forest owners such as family and community owned forests use PEFC systems as the preferred certification process.
