A Non Governmental Organisation or NGO refers to a legally constituted organisation that does not function for profit but rather to achieve socio-economic goals through activism, research, promotion, training, advocacy, community service or lobbying. NGOs are not run by government or businesses. There are approximately 40,000 international NGOs and domestically the numbers vary for example, India has approximately 1 to 2 million NGOs.
