Gross National Happiness

GNH or Gross National Happiness is a term that has been coined by King Jigme Singye Wangchuck of Bhutan. The GNH is a measure of real well being of the citizens of a country that accounts for realities bound by social, environmental and human issues. As its premise it assumes that happiness can be measured when dealing with quality of health care, nutrition, housing, education and community life. Various indicators have been arrived at to enable measurement of the GNH which aims to promote sustainable and equitable socio economic development; preservation and promotion of cultural values; good governance and conservation of the natural environment.
