Fur is Green is a campaign that promotes the ethical and ecological values of the fur trade. The Fur Council of Canada is attempting to show off the green side of the fur industry by creating awareness about the fact that fur is an ecologically responsible choice. Fur is natural, long lasting, sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable, scoring points over synthetic furs that are created from petroleum based materials. The furs are abundantly available in Canada but strict governmental regulations guide usage and endangered species are not used while only a fraction of the natural surplus from raccoons, coyotes, foxes, muskrats and beavers is utilised. Canada is the world leader in the development of humane standards for fur farms and the International Fur Trade Federation also has an Origin Assured label that accompanies furs that are procured under high quality animal welfare standards.
