Drip Irrigation

December 24, 2009 · 0 comments

Drip Irrigation is an irrigation technique that uses a network of pipes, valves, tubes and emitters to control the amount of water used. This method saves fertilizer and water by letting the water drip slowly to the plant roots either directly onto the root zone or on the soil surface. This kind of irrigation is also known as micro irrigation or trickle irrigation.

Drip irrigation leads to the efficient use of water and a well designed system prevents water loss due to evaporation, deep percolation and runoff. As this kind of watering does not have much contact with leaves, stems and fruit the chances of disease are also reduced. Additionally drip irrigation can be used with oddly shaped and mixed soil fields and can also be automated.
