The Chevrolet Volt 2011 model is scheduled to be launched by Chevrolet, a division of General Motors in November this year. The buzz surrounding this car stems from the fact that it is a plug in hybrid electric vehicle.

The Volt will use the new Voltec electric automotive platform for its propulsion system which will allow propulsion to be be accomplished by the electric motor. This car will not require an external charging station but an electrical power outlet and will run for the first 64 km on power stored within its onboard lithium ion batteries.

The Volt also comes with a 53 kW generator which will create power for a small 4 cylinder gasoline internal combustion engine to give the car more than 483 km post the initial 64 based on the state of power of the battery and also demand on the wheels.
