Bioremediation is the process of removing pollutants or contaminants using fungi, micro-organisms and green plants or their enzymes.
Bioremediation is one of the options used under the category environmental remediation which also accomplishes the task of returning the natural environment to its original form by using chemicals and bulk movement methods.
An example of bioremediation is when bacteria are introduced to attack specific soil contaminants. Contaminated material may be treated at the site itself or elsewhere by removing the material. The technologies employed for bio remediation include: bio stimulation, bio reactor, land farming, bio venting, composting, bio augmentation and rhizo-filtration.
