Anthropogenic

December 17, 2009 · 0 comments

The word Anthropogenic refers to objects or effects that come about as a result of human activities. These processes, materials or objects are unlike those that occur in biophysical environments without the influence of man.  Invariably, the term is used in the context of environmental issues such as chemical or other waste products that are off shoots of otherwise productive human activity. The term was first used in the mid 1970’s introduced by atmospheric scientist Paul Crutzen as anthropocene. The chief anthropogenic sources are agriculture, botany, industry, mining, transportation, habitations, construction and deforestation.
