Airbus A380

Airbus was the first commercial airline to fly with alternative fuel on a test flight from Filton to Toulouse in 2008. The gas-to-liquid / GTL fuel which  is mixed with 60% regular jet fuel produces no sulphur and therefore improves the air quality. This step in experimenting with alternative fuel sources has led the A380 to be christened ‘gentle green giant’ by Airbus. In addition to using alternative fuel, the A380 has been built with eco consciousness in mind. The carbon emissions per person per km are 17% less than what is emitted by the Boeing 747s. Qatar Airways was the first airline to use the GTL fuel on a regular commercial flight in 2009.
